20 Upcoming Movies That Just Got Cancelled

19. Paul King's Star Wars Project

And now for a film we didn't even know about until its cancellation was announced.

In a recent interview with writer-actor Simon Farnaby, he revealed that he was previously developing a new Star Wars film alongside Paddington and Wonka filmmaker Paul King.

King was set to direct the film and co-write with Farnaby, which was said to be a standalone Star Wars movie centered around a robot with no links to existing characters.

However, Farnaby added that Disney eventually pulled the plug because it didn't feel enough like Star Wars, adding that he and King "never really nailed it."

Considering the creative funk the Star Wars franchise is in right now, King and Farnaby were an inspired pick to do something fresh with it.

They would've certainly brought a uniquely peppy energy to the table, so it's a damn shame that their take was deemed too divorced from the core IP to get the greenlight.
