Us Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

1. The Clever Use Of Music

Us 2019
Universal

Us wouldn't be quite the same movie without its music, both in terms of Peele's use of pre-existing pop music and a cracking original score from returning Get Out composer Michael Abels.

For starters, Luniz's mid-90s rap classic "I Got 5 on It" is cleverly invoked and then subsequently remixed by Abels, while another memorable sequence in the film uses a certain classic tune from late-80s rap to hysterical effect.

Abels' score is the real star of the show, though, employing nerve-rattling string work and accounting for much of the film's mood even when the attempts at suspense aren't necessarily successful.
