Us Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

2. Mike Gioulakis' Excellent Cinematography

In addition to Peele's direction feeling more assured than in Get Out, this is also a far more handsome movie thanks to the efforts of cinematographer Mike Gioulakis.

Having worked on the likes of It Follows, Split and Glass in recent years, Gioulakis is well-versed in the genre and does a fantastic job making every frame of this film look as richly cinematic as possible.

The easy visual highlights include some sun-kissed exteriors later in the movie and a scene taking place on an escalator, both of which present extremely moody and vibrant images.

Between the cinematography, Peele's improved directorial eye and pin-sharp editing from Nicholas Monsour, this movie is a visually sumptuous effort in even its lesser moments.
