No context has been provided for what this Venom cocoon actually is, but it's pretty weird, right? It seems likely the symbiote may have created this in order to protect his human host, possibly in an alternate version of that final battle (to protect Eddie Brock from the rocket ship explosion).
It's also feasible that Venom might have emerged from this cocoon, offering more insight into what his race looked and lived like on the asteroid the Life Foundation found them travelling on. Some fans love the cosmic side of the symbiote's backstory, while others hate it, and it remains to be seen how much this franchise will explore that side of the character.
Regardless of what Giandoso was going for here, it shows what a talent he is, and reveals that there were once far more interesting ideas in place for Venom's portrayal in the 2018 movie.
