Venom: 18 Easter Eggs & References Explained

Venom's mid-credits scene of course sees Eddie heading to San Quentin State Prison where he interviews an inmate, who turns out to be none other than Cletus Kasady.

Kasady, played by Woody Harrelson in a gut-bustingly awful wig, writes "Welcome Eddie" in blood on his cell wall, and signs off a brief exchange between the two by declaring that "there’s gonna be carnage" when he escapes.

You don't need to be a card-carrying comic book nut to appreciate how out-of-place that final word feels, and that's because it's nodding to Kasady's symbiote-induced alter-ego Carnage.

Carnage is effectively an even tougher monster than Venom, distinguished by his signature red hue.

The pair have slugged it out plenty in the comics, and it's certainly a fan favourite arc for a potential sequel, assuming Venom performs well enough financially and the bad reviews don't scare Harrelson off.
