War For The Planet Of The Apes Review: 10 Ups & 1 Down
6. Matt Reeves' Incredible Direction
Matt Reeves' career has gone from strength to strength so far, debuting with hit found footage flick Cloverfield, delivering an unexpectedly effective remake with Let Me In, crafting a jaw-droppingly great sequel with the previous Apes film, and now serving up his best work to date.
War is an evolution of Dawn's style and tone, an enormously confident film that finds Reeves at the top of his game, refusing to rush through lengthy dialogue-free scenes of apes signing at one another.
Reeves once again has faith in the audience to pay attention, and so every moment of this 140 minute epic feels bled for maximum emotional intensity and dramatic potency. Needless to say, it's easy to feel confident about Reeves' upcoming work on The Batman. The film is lucky to have him.
