Warner Bros. restart MORTAL KOMBAT

Warner Bros. are inserting a new set of coin into a reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise. Rookie Oren Uziel (writer of the 2009 blacklisted screenplay Shimmer Lake) has been hired to come up with a brand new script that will attempt to end the 13 year hiatus the video game franchise has endured away from the big screen. As a kid, I was always a part of the MK camp rather than Street Fighter and despite an admitted ounce of excitement at the thought of Sub Zero and Johnny Cage doing battle on the big screen, I have to kind of admit that the way video games are adapted into movies these days, I don't think anyone is topping Paul W.S. Anderson's original 1995 adaptation, Few seem to remember that the MK movie was actually a big deal back in the day, topping the box office charts for three whole weeks! Anderson's movie delivered the mythology from the game in a respectful manner, contained all the major characters and the fight scenes were cool, despite not being as bloody and r-rated as my older self would have liked. But we'll see. Until we know more... it's difficult to speculate.
