The first of several killer animal movies on this list, Catnip avoids the usual suspects and instead unleashes a gang of feral cats upon the residents of a dilapidated apartment building on Christmas Eve of all nights.
And in case you're wondering why everyone doesn't simply leave the building, a thick, dangerous fog envelopes LA and leaves everyone unable to safely leave, forcing them to instead stay indoors. Got it.
The producers have described Catnip as "Gremlins for grown-ups," whatever that means, while the cast includes the impressively talented and diverse likes of Joey Lauren Adams, Oscar nominee Bruce Dern (!), Chevy Chase, Jake Busey, Geoffrey Arend, and Lorelei Linklater, among many more.
A few years back, Cocaine Bear showed how an utterly deranged creature feature could land with the mainstream, and while Catnip might struggle to have the same breakout, rabid cats is definitely a fun new wrinkle for the subgenre.
