Wes Craven: Every Movie Ranked Worst To Best
16. Swamp Thing
Before there was the Marvel Cinematic universe and The Avengers, before DC released the Dark Knight Trilogy, before even Sam Raimi's spark of the superhero genre taking hold in the original Spiderman - there was Swamp Thing. And oh my, is it something strange.
Described as a 'rubber-suit monster movie', Swamp Thing does exactly what it says on the tin. A man is transformed into a monster when his swamp laboratory is tampered with and fights back against evil forces who want to take his research for wrongdoing.
It's dated, and reads like a 50s B-Movie injected with Craven's desire to prove he could handle action: but taking it on surface value is entertaining enough to be forgiving.
Comic book tastes were very different back in the 80s, and Swamp Thing represents them in their full, fantastically camp force.
