What Does The Ending Of Logan Really Mean?

8. So, Will Those Deaths Be Permanent?

Unfortunately, this is the end for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, as he always stated. His death is too symbolic and too significant to retcon with a crazy time-loop and there's actually very little he could even do if he was still alive. This isn't just the death of the character, but the death of his arc. This is Obi-Wan fading away to nothing.

The same goes for Charles Xavier. Though Sir Patrick Stewart did tease that he might not be done with the character, he subsequently revealed that Logan feels like the right place to end his time as the character. And just as Jackman's exit was perfect, his death might have been tragic, but it was the right way to send him off. Bringing him back for a film set earlier in the timeline with the other X-Men cast would be a disservice to this beautiful film.

X-24 is also dead, in case anyone thought Fox might sneakily resurrect Jackman to play his own evil clone: that adamantium bullet pretty much exploded his head (even though the same thing only caused Logan's amnesia in the past). And none of the X-Men are coming back from where Xavier accidentally sent them.

So no, don't expect any Disney deaths here.
