What Does The Ending Of Logan Really Mean?
5. What About Alkali Transigen?
Though the end of the movie sees Logan kill Dr Zander Rice and the mutant kids kill off Donald Pierce and the Reavers (who are no more than glorified cannon fodder), there's no suggestion that the company they all work for is no more. The mutant children still have to flee to Canada, and the company presumably still lives to clone another day (or they'd have nothing to run from).
The real question here is whether Alkali Transigen were a legitimate, government-backed organisation, and the only answer can be that they were. In the face of Professor Xavier's seizure that killed the X-Men and injured hundreds of "norms", the population must have gone through another phase of anti-mutant hysteria (despite the fact that they made comics celebrating the X-Men and sold their likenesses as action figures).
It's not overtly spoken, but it appears that Alkali Transigen do have the backing of the government, which suggests the war between man and mutant rages on. But not in Canada, which is a much more level headed place.
But, could they have cloned other X-24s? Why would it be the case that they'd breed a whole batch of child clones as an army but would stick to only doing one of the superior models? It makes no sense that there aren't other young Wolverines out there waiting to be used by whoever fills the power vacuum created by Rice.
