What Every Major Character Did After The Lord Of The Rings
7. Merry And Pippin
Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck was cousin to Peregrin "Pippin" Took.
They left the Shire with Frodo and Sam and journeyed to Rivendell. With some reluctance, Elrond agreed to let them be a part of the Fellowship because of the loyalty they showed to Frodo. They were captured by Uruk-hai and carried across Rohan before managing to make their escape into Fangorn Forest where they met Treebeard and convinced the Ents to attack Saruman in Isengard.
On their return to the Shire, Merry became Master of Buckland and was known as Meriadoc the Magnificent and remained friends with king Eomer. He also wrote several works, including Herblore of the Shire, which detailed the history of pipe-smoking by hobbits.
Pippin was made Thain of the Shire and amassed a library of historical information. Because he and Merry had drunk Entwater in Fangorn they became the tallest hobbits in history, both growing to over four feet tall.
In the last few years of their lives they resigned their offices and set off on a journey to Rohan, staying until the death of Eomer later that year, then continuing on to Gondor. As a sign of respect for their part in Sauron's downfall, when they died they were buried alongside the kings of Gondor.
