What Every Major Character Did After The Lord Of The Rings
6. Eowyn
Eowyn was a shieldmaiden of Rohan, Theoden's niece and Eomer's sister. Her parents died when she was young and the king adopted her and her brother as his own.
When Saruman launched his attack on Rohan she wished to be able to fight in defence of her country but was denied by Theoden and Aragorn. When the army rode to help Gondor she disguised herself as a soldier and went along with them, taking Merry with her as Theoden had also forbidden him from going into battle.
It was during the battle of the Pelennor Fields that she gave her greatest contribution to the war when she killed the Witch King as he boasted that 'no man' could kill him. Because her shield and arm were broken in the fight, she was given the title Lady of the Shield-arm in recognition.
She was severely wounded in the battle and wasn't able to go with the army to Mordor, spending some time recovering in the Houses of Healing in Minas Tirith. It was there that she met Faramir and the two grew close.
They eventually married and she became known as the Lady of Ithilien, living there with Faramir. She still remembered her friendship with Merry and sent him gifts when he was appointed Master of Buckland.
