What If Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man Had Joined The Avengers?
3. Amazing Spider-Man 3
At the time of the announced deal, there were already plans in place for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 with director Marc Webb returning to direct the series. In this alternate timeline, we would have The Amazing Spider-Man 3 released shortly after the big Civil War movie as the world is reacting to the now divided Avengers. In the meantime, we would have had a nod towards Civil War in 2017's The Defenders from Matt Murdock himself.
If anything, Spider-Man's profile has only increased dramatically since the entire deal with the Sokovia Accords and that Peter Parker's secret identity no longer a secret at all. This has led to some new adjustments for the web-slinging hero, where we see that he has to deal with the press (particularly showing a scene where Spidey discredits Eddie Brock's journalism and thus getting him fired from The Daily Bugle). On the personal side, Mary Jane offers to be there for Peter and talk over coffee but Peter refuses out of guilt towards what happened to Gwen in the last movie.
Amidst all this new attention, Adrian Toomes has been salvaging technology from the sites of various Avengers battles and has been establishing a black market in New York. Feeling on the up, Peter goes to confront them (running into Luke Cage running the same case) and gets trounced. The Vulture warns Peter not to interfere otherwise there would be consequences, to which Peter refuses to give in. This later leads to Peter and Aunt May's apartment being destroyed and his suit being hung out in the public as a warning.
Feeling distraught, Peter decides that this was a mistake as he had put too many lives at risk with his superhero activities and decides to take some time for some soul-searching. After reflection on Uncle Ben's words in the first movie, Gwen's words in the second as well as an unexpected visit from Captain America himself get the pep talk he needs to get up and kick The Vulture's ass using his original suit from The Amazing Spider-Man. The movie then ends with Peter and MJ finally deciding to go on that coffee date.
In the post-credits stinger, Adrian Toomes is revealed to have gotten his wingsuit from Oscorp and he has met up with Harry Osborne, Max Dillon and Aleksei Sytsevich as the mysterious stranger gathers them together.
