What Marvel's Black Panther Cast Look Like In The Comics
10. Queen Ramonda
In The Comics:
Queen Ramonda is T'Chaka's third wife, and not T'Challa's birth mother, but his stepmother, who was abducted and abused for years by a white supremacist before being found and rescued. She suffered serious injury over the course of the story, but still survived, and was named Queen mother when Shuri, her biological daughter, took over as Queen.
She's identifiable in the comics by her white, braided hair and gentle, somewhat youthful appearance.
In The Films:
Queen Ramonda in the films seems to be T'Chaka's only wife (that the audience knows of), and is T'Challa and Shuri's mother, as well as one of T'Challa's staunchest supporters in his rise to power as king.
She provides T'Challa with encouragement, and her loyalty and love make her determined to see his life preserved, his position honoured, and his enemies crushed. She's marked by her distinctive Zulu headdress, but is also shown to have distinctive white hair, and is played as a stately, strong and dignified woman by the equally stately and dignified Angela Bassett.
Despite not playing as large a role in the film, she still joins the other women in reclaiming Wakanda for the good of its people.
