What Marvel's Black Panther Cast Look Like In The Comics
9. King T'Chaka
In The Comics:
A skilled warrior king, T'Chaka has a long history in the comics which includes meeting Captain America during World War II, back when his father, King Azzuri, was the Black Panther. Later, he gave Captain America a piece of Vibranium for his shield, when Cap gained T'Chaka's trust.
He preserved tradition and magic in Wakanda but pursued technological advancement because of his beloved wife and T'Challa's mother, N'Yami. He married Ramonda, Shuri's mother, after N'Yami's death. But it was Klaw, during an attack on Wakanda, that killed T'Chaka later, prompting T'Challa to replace him as ruler.
In The Film:
T'Chaka was Black Panther for a time in his youth before being replaced by T'Challa, and though he was the first ruler of Wakanda to reach out to the world to provide aid, he still retained Wakanda's isolationism, and in his bid to protect the kingdom, made mistakes that might have destroyed it. He was tender and loving father, and a good and wise leader, and was killed during the UN explosion in the Captain America: Civil War film. He's played by John Kani in both films, perfectly portrayed as the dignified, wise, father figure he was.
