What X-Men: Days of Future Past Film Could Mean For The Franchise

What Next For The Franchise? aka Days Of Future Present

Will we ever see this line up again?

So after the dust settles and Days Of Future Past has been released, where does that leave the future of the franchise? Well, if done right, it could mean the re-introduction of the core X-Men such as Angel, Cyclops and Nightcrawler. We could get Jean Grey back without Famke Jessen's stellar turn as the Dark Phoenix and her demise losing any of its meaning. We might even see the return of Iceman and Kitty Pride and the establishment of other major X-Men characters such as Colossus. Maybe that on again-off again relationship between Rogue and Gambit will finally get the big screen treatment. It could also mean the creative teams could reintroduce villains such as Toad, Sabretooth and Stryker in different ways, establishing them as separate entities from the ones we've seen before but not erasing the former iterations. It could also ease the issue of Fassbender and McAvoy inheriting the roles of Professor X and Magneto without the expulsion of the much loved version of the duo portrayed by Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. In short, it could leave us with the exact opposite of what The Last Stand left us with: infinite possibility. Of course, all of what this article has speculated may not happen in the film whatsoever. All we know for sure is this: Bryan Singer will be the producer. Matthew Vaughen will return as director. Jane Goldman is once again writing the script. And James McAvoy and Micheal Fassbender are returning as the friends-cum-enemies Xavier and Magneto. The rest is up to them. The adaptation of Days Of Future Past is something that Lauren Shuler Donner has wanted to do for a long time by her own admission, and she has finally been given the go ahead from Fox to do so. We can only wait and hope for the best. In the mean time, those unfamiliar with the story would do well to either read the original graphic novel or watch the X-Men: The Animated Series adaptation for a hint of whats to come. The future past awaits. X-Men: Days Of Future Past is scheduled for release in 2014.
