The 6th Day
The Movie: This is a movie that is somewhat underrated and perhaps unfairly forgotten in the list of Schwarzenegger movies. It came out at a time when cinema goers were being wowed more by Neos martial arts then by Arnolds muscle. Yes indeed the late nineties and early noughties were harsh on the Governator as people became tired with the same shtick hes been doing for his whole career. Had this film came out a decade earlier it would probably be as fondly remembered as Total Recall and The Running Man, and is likely one of his movies that more people will discover with time then did upon its initial release. Its plot is simple. A man who is thought to have died but didnt is replaced by a clone. He then has to fight to remain alive as the agency that cloned him realised their mistake and want to cover up that they are cloning humans by killing the original version of the man. See simple. The film features plenty of cool action sequences, and gives us two Arnolds on screen at once so we get twice the testosterone as usual (but still only one third of what youd get in a Chuck Norris movie). An appearance of the Johnny Cab like Sim Pal Cindy brings back fond memories of Total recall, but whilst acceptable, Tony Goldwyn playing the villain isnt a believable enough threat to Schwarzenegger for us to get a satisfactory final battle. Set in a near future, the film is humorously dated by its inclusion of Vince McMahons XFL Football League as still being around and thriving in the future, when in reality the league would fold the same year it was created. Its always a shame when movies that predict the future are proved inaccurate by the time they hit home release!
What It Says About You: You were excited to see this film because it gave you nostalgia of Total Recall. Somehow along the way you decided that you actually think this film is better. The effects are better and youd watched Total Recall so many times that this came as a breath of fresh air and stole your heart.
Soundbite: Its al the things I liked about Arnolds movies from the 80s, but done with late 90s effects. What more could I want?!
