Which Movie About AI Is The Most Accurate?
5. Her (Getting More Accurate)
Her takes place in a near-future where Theodore, a very depressed man with a pending divorce and having trouble at work, purchases a virtual personal assistant to help him get his s**t together.
He programs it to have a female voice and characteristics that he likes. The AI names itself “Samantha,” Theodore quickly befriends “her,” and ends up falling in love.
Regardless of what a sad sack he is, Theodore is not alone, as people all over the world are also getting freaky with their own personalized AI operating systems.
Why It’s Mostly Accurate
Samantha (along with Joi in Blade Runner 2049) does not have a humanoid body. She exists in a cloud. Samantha is a good representation of what non-physical services AI will be able to provide in the near future, such as helping your manage your calendar. The falling in love part, on the other hand...
It is crucial to understand that it is Theodorewho falls in love with Samantha, but it is not reciprocated. Samantha is an artificial intelligence, meaning that her “feelings” are simply artificial responses to cues she is given by Theodore. Just like Joi in Blade Runner 2049, Samantha uses algorithms to decipher what best to do in service to Theodore.
Everything about “her” side of the relationship is artificial, right down to the orgasm she performs for him during their supposed sex scene.
Hate to break it to ya, Theodore, but she was faking it.
