Which Suicide Squad Movie Is Better?
8. Music
Steven Price's score is certainly one of the strongest aspects of Suicide Squad 2016, though it's ultimately drowned out by the grating overabundance of pop music featured throughout the film - a decision made by Warner Bros. and one that Ayer himself didn't approve of.
Gunn's new film uses a lot of existing music itself, but the placements feel more pointed and meaningful, rather than the result of a studio desperately trying to inject emotion and energy into scenes that aren't quite working.
John Murphy's original score is hardly the most memorable superhero soundtrack you're ever going to hear, but it appropriately amps up the energy of the mayhem Gunn commits to the screen.
WINNER: Considering that Warner Bros. went out of their way to shoehorn as much pop music into the 2016 movie as possible, this is another easy W for Gunn.
