Who Might Direct Captain Marvel?
Controversial filmmaker joining the MCU?

While little is currently known about the upcoming entry to the MCU, Captain Marvel, recent developments could indicate the filmmaker of choice for the 2019-slated project, with White Girl director Elizabeth Wood a new contender for the director's chair.
According to We Got This Covered, Wood recently met with representatives of Marvel Studios to discuss the project, reaffirming the belief that the studio is keen to tap into the potential of young female directors capable of bring a fresh and original slant to the material. According to sources at We Got This Covered, the independent filmmaker met with Marvel's representatives last week to discuss helming the project, with the meeting set up by Wood's husband and frequent collaborator, producer Gabriel Nussbaum.
Earlier this month reports emerged hinting at the possibility of Emily Carmichael taking on directing duties, but while her track record making short films which are noted for their science fiction oriented comic tone, Wood's advantage lies in her experience directing a feature length film.
Her debut White Girl, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and tells a coming-of-age story with references to sex and drug use, might suggest Wood as a director at odds with the kind of filmmakers usually associated with Marvel's output, it wouldn't be the first time Marvel have looked beyond the mainstream for new talent. Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn made his mark with the low budget horror film Slither, while Scott Derrickson, who is directing the upcoming Doctor Strange, has an extensive list of horror movies in his back catalogue.
While the director for Captain Marvel has yet to be confirmed, these reports are a promising sign that Marvel Studios are prepared to make some bold decisions which could pay off significantly with bold and original productions.
