3. Toy Story 2 (1999)

Toy Story 2 treads much of the same ground in establishing the theory as the first film yet it deepens the emotional resonance between the toys and humans. The film shows an expanded array of toys and new situations they can face with their owners. Also, the films of Pixar are now established to be set in the present day which, in this case, is the late 90s. The date in which everything is set is important because with later films a date is given for the time following the apocalypse which factors in with the importance of the Toy Story trilogy, A Bug's Life and Finding Nemo all taking place in the present day.
