Why Avengers: Secret Wars Is Perfect For MCU Phase 4

5. What Changes Would Need To Be Made?

As MCU fans will have noticed already, Marvel Studios don't really stick to the source material - even when they appear to be adapting major existing comic arcs. Age Of Ultron was nothing like its namesake, neither was Thor: Ragnarok or Civil War and we've already been primed to expect Infinity War to be nothing like all of the comics it's based on. So they wouldn't have to adapt Secret Wars purely.

Which is handy, because they couldn't do that. Nor should they, because what works in comics doesn't always work in movies. Just ask Ghost Rider.

The major changes Marvel would have to make would be around the end of the multiverse (it's much better to use the idea of a villain doing it all for sport as in the first Secret Wars) and Doctor Doom being the creative force behind the new Battleworld reality. You'd also have to lose Doom's interactions with the Beyonders and empowerment and the establishing use of some Fantastic Four and X-Men characters like Mister Fantastic, Beast, Cyclops, Phoenix as well as those from Netflix's arm like KIngpin and Punisher.

They'd have to drop certain elements like the Thor Corps and the return of Thanos and some other characters entirely, but the point here is that keeping the fundamental idea of the story while cutting away so much detail is exactly what Marvel Studios do. And they'd have absolutely no issue using the title while doing so.
