Why Avengers: Secret Wars Is Perfect For MCU Phase 4
4. A Means To Recast
While Kevin Feige has made it very clear that he's not looking forward to even entertaining the idea of recasting the likes of Iron Man and Captain America (because the actors initially cast absolutely own the performances), he will no doubt be pressured by his Disney paymasters to do so.
Think about it: both Captain America and Iron Man are billion dollar brands for Disney. The idea of them simply being retired because the actors are too old is just not logical in business terms: it would be like retiring James Bond after Sean Connery. And it's not like Feige hasn't hinted previously that they could recast the roles.
Anyway, the value of using a Secret Wars storyline on that front is that we could see the introduction of alternate dimension variations of characters who might be retired in Infinity War and Avengers 4. And that offers an organic means to introduce new actors to the roles in a way that pays service to a long-established trope in the comics.
And yes, while it will look like a cynical cash-grab to some, fans want more Iron Man and Captain America movies just as much as Marvel want the box office returns. They'd just have to make sure they cast the right actors.
