Why Batgirl Just Got Cancelled

1. DCEU's Future

With all of this restructuring and these cancellations then, what does the future of the DCEU look like?

Thankfully, reports claim that there should be no more surprise cancellations in the same vein as Batgirl. The future of DC movies seem to be decidedly focused on big-screen output, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash both releasing next year. The Flash is reportedly still going ahead despite the bevvy of disturbing allegations levelled at star Ezra Miller, though reports indicate that the actor will not be reprising their role in future DCEU instalments.

Other than that, it has been reported that WB is searching for a Kevin Feige-esque figure in order to oversee their DC superhero movies. How that will impact upcoming movies such as The Batman sequel, Joker 2 and Wonder Woman 3 remains to be seen, but don't be surprised if there's a change of direction across the coming year, with some other projects yet to begin production getting the can.

WB is in a weird place, and Batgirl may be just one of many casualties to come.
