Why Chris Nolan's Next Movie MUST Be This
2. Nolan Is Clearly Still Interested In It
Thankfully there's decent evidence that Nolan still has a soft spot for his Hughes script, as he talked about it quite extensively while on the press circuit for Tenet last summer.
During an interview, Nolan discussed the challenges involved with following up The Aviator, though also confirmed there's a strong possibility he'll give it some more thought in the future:
"It's tricky because, I'm passionate about the re-interpretation of the character, but having had a significant movie [made by] Scorsese and [with] DiCaprio's interpretation, it's a tricky proposition...I'll probably look at it again sometime soon and see if it still speaks to me, but I was very happy with it when I wrote it. It was kind of the most fun - not the most fun - but the best writing experience I've had."
The fact that Nolan speaks so highly of the process of writing the film does seem to confirm that it's still an unscratched itch in his mind, and if he doesn't come up with a blockbuster concept that sticks, perhaps the Howard Hughes movie will indeed finally come to fruition.
If nothing else, it could net Nolan the career-encompassing honour that's eluded him so far...
