Why Chris Nolan's Next Movie MUST Be This
1. It COULD Be His True Masterpiece
If the script truly is the best Nolan's ever written as he claims, then could it be the film that finally wins Nolan peak awards glory - that is Best Director and/or Best Picture Oscars?
Though Nolan did win a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Memento and has received four additional nominations for writing, directing, and producing since, the Big Two are still very much out of reach.
Given that there are fair arguments to be made that Nolan was snubbed for Best Director nominations for Memento, The Dark Knight, and Inception in particular, he may find himself yielding more fruitful results away from the high-concept arena.
After all, his only film to date to net him both Best Director and Best Picture nods is Dunkirk, which as a war film resides in a far more awards-friendly genre than any of the aforementioned projects.
The Aviator proved the massive prestige potential of a Howard Hughes biopic, and so if the script can match Nolan's hype, his film could remind everyone he's a great actor's director as well as an expert conductor of spectacle.
With the future state of the film industry and Nolan's place in it being so unsure right now, truly anything can happen, but seeing this long-dormant project finally come to fruition would be a welcome change of pace for the director.
