Why Ghostface Is Different In Scream VI
5. They're Not Targeting Sidney
Scream VI will be the first film in the series to not feature Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), due to a salary dispute between Paramount and Neve Campbell.
And while many view it as an unfortunate turn of events, ultimately it may benefit the series in the long run, forcing the filmmakers' hand to move on from the legacy cast by progressively phasing them out.
And for Scream VI it puts the killer in a unique position, given that they'll evidently be the first Ghostface in the franchise to not be directly targeting Sidney herself.
We'll have to wait and see precisely how Sidney is kept out of the picture, but given that most prior movies featured killers with very distinct motives for wanting her dead, evidently the killer will be compelled by something quite different this time.
Perhaps the killer has more of a bone to pick with Gale, whose sensationalist books about the Woodsboro murders have only further propagated the mythopoeia surrounding them.
Either way, with Sid totally out of the way, it's yet another reason why this Ghostface will stand far apart from the others.
