20 INSANE Horror Movie Moments You'll Never Stop Thinking About
1. Alice Sees Her Own Corpse - Lake Mungo
And finally we have the brilliant Lake Mungo and its unforgettably terrifying climactic reveal.
The film follows a family struggling to cope with the strange drowning death of their daughter, Alice (Talia Zucker), and at the end of the story the family recovers Alice's phone which she buried during a school trip to Lake Mungo.
And then we see the footage, which reveals that Alice came face-to-face with a bloated, decomposing version of herself, providing her with foreknowledge of her own impending drowning death.
Everything about the execution of this scene is note-perfect - the low-quality phone footage papers over the low-budget-ness of it all, all while the manner in which Alice's corpse moves towards her is eerily uncanny.
Even if you've not revisited Lake Mungo in the near-20 years since it first came out, this scene leaves such a deep-lasting impact that one viewing is really all you need.
