Wolverine vs. Darth Maul: Fantasy Match-Up
The Big Question: So now we get back to our main question that I posed at the start of the article: What is the melting point of adamantium? The only way for Darth Maul to win is if his light saber can cut through Wolverine's adamantium neck for a decapitation ... assuming he's not filleted by a set of claws first. That's the only way for the Sith assassin to achieve victory, because Logan's healing factor will just repair him and send him back into the fight within seconds. Here's what our research reveals: Adamantium is a composite alloy of several different materials. When it is fused together and forged into different items, there is a limited window of only eight minutes in which the metal will still be malleable. During that eight minutes, the adamantium MUST be kept at no less than 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit. After which it can never be reshaped again. And d According to the Science Channel a plasma torch can reach temperatures of 30,000 degrees Fahrenheit, which seems consistent with the speed in which the two Jedis are able to cut through the doors of the Trade Federation ship. Is that hot enough to cut adamantium? Nope. Though canon varies slightly on this point, the only source that might be hot enough to melt adamantium is the surface of a star. As evidenced in the picture above, not even a nuclear blast was hot enough and in that regard, we're looking at a temperature in the range of 1.8 MILLION degrees Fahrenheit or more. Conclusion: Both combatants are highly trained and extremely skilled.Darth Maul's quicker and more agile, but he simply does not have the weaponry to put Wolverine down for good. On the other hand, Wolverine only needs one flurry with his blades to eviscerate the Sith assassin and the end the duel in time for a cigar and a couple of Molsons. We've got Wolverine FTW. What do you say?
