Rotten Tomatoes Scores: 72% (6.6/10) for Batman, 80% (6.7/10) for Batman Returns.

There's no mistaking the iconic quality of Tim Burton's original 1989 Batman in particular, and though both it and its 1992 sequel are rather eccentric and rough around the edges, they've largely endured over more than two-and-a-half decades as shining examples of what can happen when genuine artists get to toy in the superhero sandbox.

Again, though, both films have their issues, namely messing with established Batman continuity and needlessly depicting the Caped Crusader as a ruthless killing machine, but the performances, especially those in Returns, remain some of the best in the history of comic book movies.

Wonder Woman is, by comparison, much more consistent in its tone and storytelling, so it's not a huge surprise that Burton's films, which some may argue are becoming a little dated in a post-Nolan world, have ultimately proven more divisive.
