4. The Crow

Though The Crow isn't a conventional superhero in any way, his 1994 movie nevertheless deserves all the praise it gets (the first one, anyway), largely thanks to director Alex Proyas dreaming big and daring to bring an uncompromisingly dark interpretation of James O'Barr's comic books to the big screen.

The film's actual quality will unfortunately always be overshadowed by the untimely death of its star Brandon Lee during production, but taken on its own terms, The Crow is a diverting, wholly unique superhero flick with an entrancing pull quite like nothing else out there.

But again, as with Kick-Ass, its weirdness is always going to make it more divisive than something as straight-laced as Wonder Woman.
