Wonder Woman: Every Major Character Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Queen Hippolyta

Wonder Woman Queen Hippolyta And Diana
Warner Bros.

After a brief present day introduction, we're back into the past - even before the main timeline of the film - for the scenes with young Diana, which is where we meet Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen).

We then spend a lot of the first third of the movie in the presence of Hippolyta, and although she's not seen again after that, it's enough to really make an impact.

A lot of that comes from Nieslen's performance, who is every bit as powerful and regal as necessary, but truly makes her marks with the empathy she displays and clear love she has for her daughter. She's a real figure of strength and calm, but allows the emotion to shine through too, making her scenes with Diana genuinely touching and helping setup the themes of love, hope, and empowerment that play out across the movie.
