3. Instant Separation From Marvel
Earlier last week, Jeff Robinov
via EW, confirmed that there would be an announcement in the coming weeks concerning the future of the DC Cinematic Universe. My fellow What Culture contributor Sean Gerber
wrote an article outlining what questions must be answered by this impending announcement. My favorite question that he raised and the one I feel is most fitting to the topic of this article is "Is there anything worth announcing?" Aside from the probable announcement of the Man of Steel sequel there's something else they could and should announce. If WB really wants to separate themselves from their main competitors at Marvel, they need to announce a live-action Wonder Woman film is not only in the works but a projected release date. Marvel does not really have a Wonder Woman-type character outside of possibly Ms. Marvel, nor do they have anything currently in development or that has been announced that will have a live-action superhero film with a female lead. While Marvel has had plenty of female superheroes in their previous films such as X-Men or The Avengers, they have not attempted a solo-female superhero franchise up to this point. Not only would such an announcement be unexpected from WB, without a doubt it would give them something new to bring to the table besides Batman or Superman films.
