Though Chapter 1 was an easy box office success against its low budget, fans and critics alike dragged it for functioning largely as a tepid, low-energy rehash of the original 2008 film.

And things only got worse from there.

Chapters 2 and 3, which reportedly went through significant post-production tinkering following the reaction to Chapter 1, committed the cardinal sin of demystifying the titular antagonists, presenting a backstory that few fans were even remotely interested in hearing.

Poor Madelaine Petsch certainly tries to elevate the ropey material with her gutsy central performance, but these films are so aggressively dripping with cynicism in every fibre of their being that there's little she can do to make it work.
