X-Men: 10 Massive Questions About Its Confusing Canon

1. Does The Original Trilogy Still Matter In The Slightest?

Three whole movies €“ X-Men, X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand €“ were seemingly wiped out by X-Men: Days Of Future Past€™s timeline resetting finale. Only Wolverine can remember the events of these movies, leaving Charles, Jean, Scott, Storm and all the other original teammates without any established backstories or character development. Also, for fans, this resulted in a big question €“ do those original three movies still matter at all? Not really, I€™d argue; within the context of franchise continuity, they don€™t really matter at all. Wolverine 3 could see Logan as the nearly-last man standing in a global wasteland €“ allowing him time to reflect on his previous adventures €“ but after that, I wouldn€™t be surprised if the original trilogy were never overtly referenced within the canon of the series again. The main X-Men franchise has moved on to Apocalypse and recast the likes of Jean and Scott. This allows Fox to have another stab at these characters, and they might even dust off old storylines like the Phoenix saga (which Brett Ratner adapted to very little fanfare in The Last Stand). It€™s a shame, really. X-Men and X2 got a whole lot of fans hooked on this franchise, and they€™ll soon fade into complete insignificance. All because Fox couldn€™t hold a coherent continuity together and had to reboot instead. Which X-Men continuity issue riles you the most? Let us know in the comments.
