X-Men: Apocalypse - 10 Actors Who Should Play Gambit

10. Channing Tatum

This choice may seem somewhat left-field to some, but Channing Tatum has actually expressed a lot of interest in the role of the smooth talking Cajun, as he himself is originally from the New Orleans area. Producer Lauren Schuler Donner has also discussed the possibility, hinting even at a potential solo venture focusing on Gambit's background as a thief in New Orleans starring Tatum. It would be good to see someone play Gambit who could actually pull off the accent, but a lot of fans seem displeased that Tatum could be cast in the role, citing sub-par acting ability and a lack of physical resemblance to Gambit as the main reasons. Given the right script, it seems possible that Tatum could surprise detractors with some decent acting. He certainly took a lot of people by surprise with his comedic chops in the 21 Jump Street reboot and that could potentially happen again with the role of Gambit. In terms of physical appearance, Tatum is seriously built, but many actors lose weight for roles and considering how vocal he has been about the project, I imagine Tatum would be willing to shed some muscle for a signature part like Gambit. Tatum may not be a fan favorite, but whether you like him as a choice or not, the odds of actually seeing him in the role are higher than many others on this list.
