4. Mr Sinister And X-Man
A lot of the issues with Age Of Apocalypse can be attributed to the era they appeared in. The crossover was published in the early nineties, when the comics industry was in thrall to awful costumes, extreme violence, and dark futures; the X-Men were entirely beholden to old stories, with Chris Claremont returning to the book he made big in the seventies. There was countless terrible costume designs that the film should definitely ignore, but there are equally as many poor concepts for them to just go ahead and gloss over too. Specifically Mr Sinister, a recurring villain in the comics who has never been interesting (besides a deliciously camp portrayal in the recent Secret Wars series). A near-immortal scientist who is inexplicably obsessed with Scott Summers, Mr Sinister just wouldn't work on the big screen. And, y'know, too many villains spoil the broth, as Spider-Man 3 taught us. Not only that but his main plot in Age Of Apocalypse is ridiculous: stealing Scott and Jean's baby, tampering with him, and creating X-Man! No thanks.
