X-Men: Apocalypse - 10 Mutants It Should Introduce

4. Cannonball

What's his deal: He's nigh invulnerable when he's blastin'! He's a New Mutant! He's an X-Man! He's an Avenger! Much like Derek Zoolander, he struggles to turn left! He's Sam Guthrie, the good old boy from Kentucky, the eldest of a large coal mining family who didn't forget his strong work ethic and good manners when he moved to Westchester to become part of Xavier's younger New Mutants team. Taking the (again, unimaginative) codename of Cannonball, Sam's mutant power is the ability to fly at super speeds while surrounded by an impenetrable force field. So basically he can fling himself at enemies and not get hurt. Nice one. Why should he appear: Despite the somewhat goofy power set (and following Adam X The X-Treme, that's saying something), Cannonball is one of the more interesting and distinct characters in X-Men history. His background and demeanour is very different from the majority of the movie line up and, once again, he was introduced at an appropriate age to work in Apocalypse.
