In yet another time travel/alternate future storyline (they really have to stop using that particular narrative device), Xavier€™s son travels back to murder Magneto as a young man, but accidentally kills his own father by mistake. The changes to the timeline mean that Magneto, mourning his dead friend, abandons his militant principles to adopt Xavier€™s philosophy of co-existence, and forms the X-Men himself €“ but too late to prevent Apocalypse from conquering the Earth. We then got to see the world as it might have been had the ancient mutant realised his master plan of creating a new age, and it wasn€™t a pretty sight. It€™s not the only alternate future we€™ve seen where Apocalypse wins, either: all are brutal, fascist states, with the weak enslaved and killed in their thousands, the ruling strong being merciless and cruel tyrants and Apocalypse himself the ultimate dictator. Some say that the Age Of Apocalypse, in some form or another, is a foregone conclusion, fated to take place. That seems fairly justifiable hype, given the godlike mutant€™s power and the whispers of Armageddon that follow in his wake...
