X-Men: Apocalypse - 8 Major New Story Details Revealed
3. How The New Timeline Works
Time travel is a complicated plot device at the best of times, and while X-Men: Days of Future Past made good use of it by wiping away the events of the previous movies and establishing a new timeline, what exactly does that mean for the franchise? Well, despite what many fans suspected, the plan isn't actually to now build towards putting all of these characters where they were when the original X-Men movie began. Confirming that the original trilogy and everything else which took place after 1973 has now been wiped from existence, Kinberg revealed the one future set scene which remains canon: "The intention at the end of Days of Future Past was that final future we saw was the destination for the characters. So barring another time travel or something else that would upset the timeline, that would be the fate of those characters." Seeing as that took place so far into the future, it doesn't greatly restrict future instalments of the franchise as there are still decades worth of stories which can be told. Of course, it's a little disappointing to think that characters like Iceman and Rogue are going to remain off the table for the time being rather than being able to show up sooner than expected like Angel has, but the future for the X-Men is looking good nonetheless.
