Large scale destruction isn't something we've ever seen in Fox's X-Men films, but it looks as if Apocalypse will more than live up to his name in 2016, with New York bearing the brunt of the damage we see in the trailer. Storm stands within the ruins of city blocks, Magneto hurls debris from the air and giant explosions rock Manhattan and its bridges whilst the World Trade Centre towers stand forlornly in the background. All of which points to New York being the site of the final showdown between the X-Men's young upstarts and the world's oldest, most powerful mutant . It's nothing new for New York to be destroyed in a battle with a world-ending threat, just ask the Avengers or the Ghostbusters, but it's enough of a departure from the more personal battlegrounds of previous X-Men films to still have an impact. Of course we could be seeing events out of sequence and the fate of Manhattan is part of the nightmarish vision that wakes Jean Grey at the trailer's beginning but I wouldn't count on it.
