Jennifer Lawrence's Raven/Mystique has formed an integral part of the last two X-Men films, as she first struggled to accept her mutanthood and then wavered between the dark and the light paths to helping her mutant brothers and sisters. The Apocalypse trailer places Lawrence in an even more prominent position than ever before as she leads a young team of inexperienced heroes, including Jean, Cyclops and Nightcrawler into battle with a no-nonsense attitude and determination. The real surprise though only really sinks in after viewing. Every shot of Lawrence shows her in her human-looking Raven form, not as the naturally blue-skinned Mystique persona she'd embraced by the end of First Class and DOFP. It could be that Lawrence simply got sick of spending hours in the make-up artist's chair, but from a narrative point of view Raven looks to have chosen to embrace the light and follow the dream of her old friend Charles instead of being drawn down Magneto's militant and bloodthirsty path.
