X-Men Dark Phoenix: 10 Biggest Unanswered Questions We Still Have
4. Why Was The School Named After Jean Rather Than Mystique?
After Jean has made the "ultimate sacrifice" to save Earth, it's revealed that Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters is renamed in her honour, despite the fact that a) the audience has zero emotional attachment to this character and b) she murdered Mystique and probably shouldn't be immortalised simply for cleaning up a mess she created.
It's a bit weird, no? Surely it'd make more sense for Mystique, who actually died a hero's death, to receive the accolade?
The Likely Answer
The logic is as senseless as Magneto being forgiven for his murderous ways, but made worse by the fact that young Jean's arc across the last two movies has been incredibly rushed.
The movie clearly wants this to be an epic, tear-filled tribute to the fallen superhero, but it falls laughably flat and ends up giving the wrong character their due.
Mystique wasn't exactly a highlight of these newer X-Men movies either, but she was objectively more deserving of a posthumous dedication than an actual murderer.
