X-Men: Dark Phoenix - 40 WTF Moments
26. Underage Drinking Is Apparently Fine
When Jean and the gang get back to Earth, we're repeatedly told that she's fine and she actually feels great to the extent that she's able to go to the kids' party in the woods where they all let loose. There's even alcoholic punch, which she uses to get extremely drunk quickly (after it's revealed that Storm's only useful job in this entire film is making ice for people's drinks).
But like, aside for a few of the teachers, aren't all of these mutants children? Aren't they students at the School? If so, Xavier's policy on underage drinking is remarkably lax since he could probably sense them all getting drunk. And then it turns out that they're all being closely monitored - including heat signature technology for God only knows why - by Raven and Beast anyway, who were clearly also aware of the drinking. Irresponsible.
25. The X In X-Men Doesn't Stand For That, Raven
Giving herself a two for one record on saying things that make no sense, when Mystique tries to convince Beast to leave the X-Men and run away with her, she justifies it by saying that she suspects Xavier has lost focus on what they should really be doing. She also says he should realise what the X in X-Men stands for.
Only, it doesn't stand for Xavier. does it? They're called the X-Men in honour of the X-Gene or X-Factor that causes their mutations, which Xavier didn't give his name to either. In the comics, he even explains it (in The X-Men #1 from 1963):
"[Mutants] possess an extra power ... one which ordinary humans do not!! That is why I call my students ... X-Men, for EX-tra power!"
