2. The Action And Effects Do Look Great

When Dark Phoenix was delayed, it presented Fox with an opportunity. Despite all of the hand-wringing and cycnicism that it meant that the flm simply wasn't good enough, Simon Kinberg told EW that it was actually to allow for an improvement in the effects. And even if the writing and characterisation isn't up to much, Dark Phoenix could claw some ground back with some properly good action sequences.

So far, it looks like they might have achieved that. The effects look atypically good for a comic book movie teaser (even the MCU movies struggle in that respect a lot of the time) and there are some hints at some pretty impressive set-pieces too, including the train sequence that closes out the trailer.

Putting aside the very obvious trainwreck jokes, watching Jean really spread her wings and show the full spectrum of her powers in displays like that is going to be a riot. And mercifully that might prove to be a bit of a saving grace for the movie.
