X-Men: Dark Phoenix WonderCon Footage - 10 Reactions You Need To See

Fox's X-Men movies might end on a high note after all...

After multiple delays, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is finally set to hit cinemas this June. Presumably the final time we'll see this version of the X-Men on the big-screen, the movie has been enveloped in a cloud of skepticism from day one, since, to some, it feels pointless to release a Fox X-Men movie when the characters will soon undergo a reboot courtesy of new owners Disney.

But Dark Phoenix will launch nonetheless, and to that end, we're already deep into the movie's marketing campaign, with multiple trailers and posters having hit the web already. On top of that, over ten minutes of footage was recently screened at WonderCon in Anaheim, which consisted of two different scenes from the film.

Reactions to this footage began to pop-up online soon after, and surprisingly - even in light of that aforementioned skepticism - there's been a lot of positivity surrounding it. It's not all glowing, of course, but if some of these reactions are to be believed, Dark Phoenix might be better than any of us are expecting it to be.

(spoilers for the movie's WonderCon footage lie ahead!)

10. It's Darker Than The Rest Of The Franchise

The mainline X-Men movies have been pretty bleak at times (Magneto's family being murdered, anyone?), but according to the Nerds Of Color, Dark Phoenix is going to be the most foreboding and mature of the lot:

"The first footage was epic X-Men action. Showcasing some of the best team work the group has seen in this franchise. The second was classic X-Men vs. Brotherhood conflict, building up to a really dark and ominous tone in this film, versus the rest of the installments."

The site is referring to a moment in the second clip that was screened for WonderCon attendees, in which Jean Grey starts to telekinetically crush Magneto's metal helmet while he's still wearing it, causing him to yell in pain. Ominous? Definitely.

The movie will also feature a major character death (as given away by the second trailer, and confirmed by director Simon Kinberg soon after), so it does appear as though Dark Phoenix will live up to the former part of its title and feature a rather gloomy story for the X-Men.
