X-Men Days Of Future Past: 20 Big Questions That Still Need Answers

13. How Will Old Xavier Communicate With Young Xavier?

The most memorable image from the Days of Future Past trailer was of the older Xavier speaking to the young Xavier, telling him "We need you to hope again." This conversation between the young and old versions of one man may be the emotional highlight of the film. Old Xavier is facing the man he once was €“ broken and without hope. The young Xavier is looking at the man he will become €“ someone who fights for those who fear and hate mutants. It's still not clear when and how this conversation is taking place. Since we know time travel is done mentally in this film €“ as it was in the comics €“ the two Xaviers are likely not in the same physical space. Is Old Xavier communicating telepathically through Wolverine or is old Xavier appearing in the younger Xavier's mind? We don't know, but however it happens it'll be amazing and moving to see Stewart and McAvoy share screen-time.

12. How Will Time Travel Work In This Film?

In this film, how going back in time and changing events work? Singer reportedly worked on the time travel mechanics of this film with director James Cameron, and screenwriter Simon Kinberg has said the first two Terminator films and Back to the Future were the main reference points for how time travel works in the film. Kinberg said €“ similar to Back to the Future €“ once something is changed in the past it doesn't automatically change the future. As far as we know time travel doesn't exist so there's no real-world basis on which to base a film on the matter. And when time travel is part of a film's plot there's always paradoxes and plot holes that are hard to explain as numerous factors get brought into the equation and make everything overly complicated. Preferably the time travel will be mostly clear and concise in this film rather than overly confusing and making the plot a huge mess.
