X-Men: Days Of Future Past - 5 New Mutants You Need To Know

2. Sunspot

First Appearance: Marvel Graphic Novel #4: New Mutants (1982) Played By: Adan Canto Roberto "Bobby" da Costa, an Afro-Brazilian male born into wealth, first discovered his mutant powers after being attacked by a racist opponent while playing a championship soccer game. This altercation brought him to the attention of mutant-hating Donald Pierce of The Hellfire Club, forcing Professor Xavier to run interference to save Bobby. Bobby became a brash and arrogant member of The New Mutants after being recruited by Xavier and would go on to become best friends with fellow teammate Cannonball. Ironically enough, Bobby would take over The Hellfire Club years later as its Black King, running his late father's billion-dollar corporation before ultimately being recruited to join The Avengers (alongside Cannonball and Havok).
Mutation: Sunspot was born with the ability to convert solar energy into superhuman strength (he was later gifted with the ability of firing concussive blasts, also aiding in the ability to fly). Although his body is always storing/converting solar energy, he is able to absorb more in a "powered-up" state when his entire appearance turns black (except for his eyes, which turn bright white or yellow).
