X-Men: Days Of Future Past Review - 10 Awesome Moments

3. Future Deaths Of The Mutants

At the climax of the movie, the mutants remain holed up in a Chinese monastery in the future timeline, hoping that Wolverine will be able to convince Mystique not to assassinate Bolivar Trask and prevent the Sentinels ever being created. However, just as all the drama in the past timeline is going down, the Sentinels attack the future mutants, resulting in a number of unexpectedly violent deaths: Storm is impaled from behind and her lifeless body is flung off the edge of a cliff, Blink is also stabbed by several Sentinels, Colossus has his body torn in half, Warpath gets melted by a Sentinel's fire beam and anyone who isn't Wolverine, Magneto, Xavier or Kitty ends up killed in some way or another. The scene climaxes with the Sentinels breaking into the room where the four are hiding, and just as they are about to be incinerated by the Sentinels, Mystique's decision not to kill Bolivar comes into play, essentially causing the four of them to phase out of this timeline and default to their new destiny, where the Sentinels were never created and they are happily teaching at Xavier's school.
